After the October 1, 2017 shooting in Las Vegas, there were some claims that it was the largest mass shooting in U.S. history. This isn’t surprising, since 58 people were killed and another 489 wounded. In the minds of the media, it displaced the 2016 Orlando Pulse nightclub shooting (49 killed and 58 wounded) as the worst shooting.

Hillary Clinton went from calling it genocide in 2008 to calling it an “atrocity” in more recent years. In contrast, Pope Francis isn’t afraid to call a mass killing a genocide.
The Turkish government responded to the pope’s comments by recalling its ambassador to the Vatican, and summoned the Vatican’s ambassador in Ankara to express its “great disappointment and sadness.”
It’s okay, Turkey, I get disappointed when people bring up my horrendous crimes against humanity too.

First Woman Runner In the Boston Marathon?
The first woman to run and complete the Boston Marathon was Bobbi Gibb in 1966. She finished in 3:21:40. In 2016, 50 years after being refused an official entry because women weren’t thought to be capable of running that distance, Gibb was the Boston Marathon’s grand marshal.
OJ Simpson Trial?
OJ Simpson was tried for the murder of his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend Ronald Goldman in 1995. (Although the jury was sworn in on November 2, 1994, the opening statements of the trial were January 24, 1995.) The trial lasted for 252 days. 134 days of it were televised (bad idea – it turned a media sideshow into a full blown media 3-ring circus.)
First Person to Reach the Summit of Mount Everest?
On May 29, 1953 Edmund Percival Hillary and his sherpa guide Tenzing Norgay reached the summit of Mount Everest. He had been part of an unsuccessful expedition to Everest two years earlier.
